At least in Finnish language, some misunderstandings of social vocabulary cause lots of problems and misery. For social relations, common sense and wisdom of life towork out well, "the older ones" would mean all who are at least about a year older than the child or young person in question. That is the environment to grow up in, the people having some more experience of life, knowledge and wisdom of life of their own, and so responsible of how they guude the younger ones, how they talk, what they say and emphasize, etc. That space ought not be given to the "mother" and "father", but across time the chikd or young person oneself gains some such statuses of one's own.
Especially when children have grown up and moved away from their parent's home, it is important to remember that "younger generatiln" refers to younger people in the hobbies, professions, ways of living, cultural and other forefigures of their liking, to the people sharing simikar likinfs and values in having such areas of life, and being fond of there being more experienced skilled enough forefigures in such interests and/or ways of living. So that is different from children.
Between adults during the later year it would be better to use mostly just names and mention the age of each clearly, so that there would be no mixing with the like-minded who having come from a diffrrent background, kind of find emotionally warm and good such life, values and wisdom and so expect everyone to floyrish there, and cannot understand that their chikdren too had too much of something not of their own type and much too little of something they longed for, and so the adult chikdren moved away to find their own tyoe of life and freedlm, and ought not ve mixed with the admirers of their mom and dad.
